Gameday Grilled Chipotle Chicken Wings

Updated: Nov 9, 2021

These sweet and tangy grilled chicken wings are perfect for an afternoon appetizer on game day. Savory with a hint of spice, they’re easily a crowd favorite! Chicken wings are actually simple to grill up and quick to cook through. We doubled down on the flavor for these gameday chipotle wings: Both Butcher BBQ’s Sweet Chipotle Rub and Chipotle BBQ Sauce are used in this recipe. The rub seasons the meat nicely before the wings hit the heat. Then, the flavors and aroma in the chipotle-flavored BBQ sauce are released when it’s tossed with the wings.

These wings can even be prepared ahead of time so you’re ready to grill during halftime. Just put them in the refrigerator after seasoning them with the chipotle rub. Once it’s time to grill, bring them to room temperature, then throw them on the hot grates and let them cook. Chicken wings don’t have to be constantly monitored — Grill each side for about 3-4 minutes and you should be good to go. Just make sure the internal temperature of the chicken reads 165 degrees or more to make sure they’re cooked through. You’ll need extra napkins for these chipotle chicken wings slathered in sauce!

Ingredients

1 lb chicken wings

1 tbsp avocado oil

1 tbsp Sweet Chipotle Rub

⅓ cup Chipotle BBQ Sauce

Directions

Preheat the grill to medium-high heat, approximately 450 degrees Fahrenheit.

Place chicken wings in a shallow dish and drizzle with avocado oil. Use tongs to toss to coat. Sprinkle with Sweet Chipotle Rub and toss to coat again. Let sit for 20 minutes to marinate.

Place chicken wings on the preheated grill and grill, rotating every 3-4 minutes, until completely cooked through and browned, about 12-15 minutes.

Remove chicken wings from heat and let rest 2 minutes, then toss with Chipotle BBQ Sauce. Let rest another couple minutes before serving warm with more sauce if desired.
